Truthfully, I was a little taken aback at the beginning, as the ideas seemed so strange at first, I had to tell myself to hold my horses and wait with the judgment to the end. I promised to myself that no matter what I will read this book cover to cover.Firstly, I saw only differences between me and the author - different attitude towards alcohol, different problem, different home situation... I happened to live in UK for many years and I know several people with exactly the same problem as this guy. But not me. I was different.And then, somewhere in the middle of the book, I couldn't lie to myself anymore. I had to admit that alcohol was in fact a poison and that it was a highly addictive one, too. No matter what you do, you get addicted to it eventually. It can take years or decades, but if you persist and regularly consume alcohol, it will be more and more difficult to quit. When faced with those facts, I knew I had no other choice but to quit it, which I did. I followed the steps in the book and haven't touched the alc for 2 months now. But more importantly I do not feel the sense of deprivation at all. Instead, I feel that I have finally given myself the freedom that I always deserved - the freedom to wake up with hangover-free mind. The freedom to feel ok when driving to the parties. The freedom to speak when everyone at the party no longer can and finally the freedom to put into my body what truly nourishes it and not a posion.Do I recommend this book? Sure thing. But it will not be easy to face the facts. One last remark - if you decide to purchase it, I suggest you read it cover to cover, no matter what.Edit: it's now 2019 and I'm still off alcohol. I've managed to continue my social life quite well, don't feel socially excluded at all. In fact I enjoy the parties even more now that I'm conscious all the way through ;)
I came across this book by reading another post regarding a completely different subject. The original post described a woman's life getting back on track after she quit drinking using Craig Beck's method. I don't classify myself as a typical alcoholic, but I was tired of the fact that I was a slave to my 2 glasses of wine a night for the last 8 years. Even though it's not considered a lot of alcohol I was completely unable to stop, therefore an 'alcoholic'. After reading this book I had a complete shift of how I looked at alcohol. I have always considered alcohol as comforting, something I relied on to 'decompress' in the evening. I have since learned by reading this book that alcohol is and was anything but a comfort or reliable. Deep down I always knew what I was doing was not good and it wasn't going to get better with time, but now I am extremely thankful that I have a chance - pure hope - that I can live without alcohol. If you are struggling, read this book and allow this method to permeate your thinking towards drinking. Knowing you have been suckered, and HOW you were suckered, gives you the ability to defend yourself just enough to escape the trap!
I would like to give my highest possible recommendation! The book has had a profound effect on my personal relationship with alcohol. I intentionally waited a couple of months to write this recommendation in an effort to validate his approach to quit drinking without using the concept known as will power. After reviewing the book several times, I have been able to generate my own interpretation about this crisis and his methodology.One of the most common questions that Craig receives is, “Do I have a drinking problemâ€? After considerable thought, I believe this question is completely off target. In my opinion, the term “problem†is much too general and nebulous. In some cases, it’s interpreted as something more extreme in nature. In my opinion, the real question should be, â€Is alcohol negatively affecting the quality of my life in any wayâ€? As one of many possible examples, why do people consider waking up with a hangover and ruining the entire next day not to be negatively affecting the quality of their life? The hangover is a part of any drinkers’ reality whether they have been drinking for one month or thirty years.In summary, this book will definitely provide you with a new way of thinking about this socially acceptable powerful DRUG that has ruined and will continue to ruin millions of lives every single year. I personally believe that alcohol is one of the biggest marketing scams that western society has allowed to be executed over and over again!
I believe that when one is ready to learn a lesson, the "teacher" will appear. This was the book that "flipped the switch" for me with alcohol. I made a decision to stop drinking in April (not for the first time) and found this book soon after. It was a complete mind-shift for me. As I read it I found myself thinking that I would never allow another person to do to me what alcohol has done. This time quitting felt completely different as I now viewed alcohol as my enemy. There was no feeling of deprivation, and no temptation. Yes, it took a few weeks to get the "habit" redirected at the cocktail hour as I learned to do different things during that time span each evening, but there was no white-knuckled resistance involved. Since April I have been around others who drank (including on my own birthday) and it didn't bother me at all. That said, I've given up a lot since I quit drinking: I gave up disrupted sleep, I gave up mood swings, I gave up lethargy, I gave up spending money on alcohol, and I gave up a habit that brought nothing good into my life. Maybe this book will be the one to do it for you, maybe not, but give it a try and good luck to you!UPDATE: It is August 1, 2018 and I am still alcohol free (fifteen months now). The holidays posed no problem and no temptation to drink. I have recommended this book to two other people and they both gave up alcohol after reading it. I am grateful to Mr. Beck.
