This is an outdated version of The Dog Cancer Diet. Dr. Dressler has made some updates in the 2nd edition of the book "The Dog Cancer Survival Guide", and some of the information in this book is no longer valid. I wish I had known that prior to making the purchase, I would have saved my money. Thank goodness it was only $2.99. I recommend purchasing the entire book instead since it's current and has the benefit of more years of research.
Our beautiful 80lb dog was diagnosed with a large abdominal mass (probable sarcoma)in November 2013- (hystotype undetermined)since the aspheric came back inconclusive. The tumor is located in the upper part of his lower back, although they have mentioned the word cancer, they have not been able to determine what kind. The tumor is large(inoperable) and pressing on his large intestine and color. We just finished 6 doses of palliative radiation, but according to the Vet the tumor did not reduce by a lot. I have been feeding him the high protein diet recommended by the Dog Cancer Diet (with “fresh digest†enzymes), complemented by a mixture of nutra-plus, and low residue dog food . God bless his heart he is in good spirits, and very happy…we feel that the special diet combined with the digestive enzymes have helped him “tremendously†to lessen the straining, and he loves the food!
this is an ok book overall but I think a dog owner needs more diet information and less technical medical info,,,,ALSO most dogs will die when they get bad cancer and there needs to be more emphasis on their suffering from these horrible radical treatments such as CHEMO, RADIATION, and SURGERY , Come on VETS dont encourage surgery that spreads the cancer!!! geez
This book breaks down a good diet for dogs with cancer -- in PLAIN ENGLISH. It explains the science behind it concisely and in a way that is easy to retain, follow, and explain to others if they ask why you're cooking for your dog instead of feeding your furry friend commercial food which often but not always contain carcinogens which do not help a dog fight the cancer that is already in their body.
It is hard to be sure what helps and what doesn't, but my 15 year old dog is still alive 8 months after the first sign of osteosarcoma and 6 months after amputation. She's doing amazing well. I followed this diet for her and did treatments with my holistic veterinarian. No chemo or anything at her age.
This book has saved my dog's life and empowered my husband and I to be the best guardians we can. Maggi,our 4 year old Boxer was diagnosed with a Grade 3 (mitotic value that was off the charts) inoperable mast call tumor in February, 2012 and was given about 3 months. She is about to hit her one year mark from the diagnosis and she is as healthy as ever! Her oncologist is in awe of her tenacity. With prayer and guidance from the book and our vets we are certain that Maggi will beat this.Dr.Dressler is such a blessing. Thank you for caring enough about us and our animals to do this reserach and write such a wonderful tool to help deal with the horrors of cancer.
