I really like that this book tells you what TO do instead of what NOT to do.It doesn't say "don't eat carbs" or "don't eat fat". Instead, it says "eat broccoli", "eat salmon", and "eat soy protein". It doesn't say "do 50 pushups", it says "spend a few minutes walking" and "spend a few minutes observing your breath". It offers a few suggestions that are unconventional ("ignore the news for a few days"), but very helpful. It starts very simple and slow, and it adds a few small steps every week. So it's a very manageable way to build some good habits, particularly if you are starting from the absolute beginning.I don't know how much science there is behind certain things, especially some of the supplements. Do I really need to eat ginger root every week? I don't eat it regularly now, but it was easy enough to try it once. Dr. Weil uses a lot of anecdotal "evidence" to make his points, but that's OK. It's an easy plan to implement, and if something doesn't work for you, there's nothing saying you have to do it forever. Try it once, and then choose what works for you and what doesn't.I did lose a substantial amount of weight during my eight weeks, even though this book isn't necessarily intended as a weight loss plan. Whether you are trying to lose weight or not, you will build some very good habits, and you will feel better about yourself right off the bat. If nothing else, it will make you think about how you eat, how you exercise, and how you medicate. I don't view this as a plan to cure disease or even to lose weight, but rather as a foundation for a better everyday lifestyle.This is a great launching pad to healthier living, especially if you have no idea where to start.

I'm still reading this. The content is very informative, but the date of the latest edition of the book is 2006. Although I'm sure the basics still apply, I've no way of knowing if any of the content has been superseded.

Dr. Weil has amazing tips to deal holistically with inflammation. I have recommended his books to family and friends.

Written in plain English without all the medical jargon, this book takes a common sense and holistic approach to wellness

A really good intro/beginner combo pack to breathing and meditation. I sent gifts to my stressed out girlfriends who had never really done anything like this before and they received benefits right away. I bought it after c-section and appendicitis surgery and it really helped with my healing.

I'm not impressed. Lots of information out there that feels more up to date and useful.

Really practical advices, easy to read and understand.I own many of Dr. Weil's books and this one is probably one of my favorite.I actually bought the audio book first, but the content was so useful that I wanted to have the book as a reference to look things up.I've incorporated many of his suggestions and I have more energy and don't get sick as often.Highly recommend this to everyone who care about their health!!!

Excellent book for those who are sick and don't know where to start out. This book gives you a solid foundation of essential things your body needs to heal itself. It takes commitment though! The things are not hard to do, but you really need to do them consistently and form good habits, which is the hard part. But if you really want it, you will do it easily.

I bought the kindle edition and I cannot tell you how infuriating it is to try to read it on a kindle. Throughout the book there are letters reproduced. The type is so minuscule on a kindle I found myself actually using a magnifying glass until I just gave up. Why the letters were not printed in regular sized type is beyond me. Sometimes alterations have to be made to accommodate an ebook. This is a waste of money and time.

I basically wanted to read this story when I saw previews to the movie coming out with Melissa McCarthy as I thought the story was intriguing. The book however, was ok. It was a quick read and really just said that she forged letters from celebrities. Not a whole lot more to the story. I still think the movie might be good but probably no need to read the book if you see the movie.

After seeing the movie with a spectacular Melissa McCarthy I thought I should read the source material. Ms Israel was interesting but mostly lacking in true self-awareness. The writers of the movie did a much better job of delivering an interesting version of her exploits. See the movie, skip this pamphlet.

I am reading this book on a 27" monitor. The letters reproduced to accompany the text cannot be sized up to be seen clearly and to be read without eye strain. They are of such low resolution that cutting and pasting to an image app does not resolve the issue. They should be resizable so anyone can read them. Disappointed.

To be fair, this light memoir is engaging, self-deprecating, candid and brilliantly written but her career choice as a literary forger is deplorable and there isn't a whiff of remorse unless it was a regret the forgeries were sold too cheaply. As the author stated in the preface, her forgeries were her best writing. It was a shame Lee Israel waited until her final years to rejoin the 9-5 working world she disdained. Stunning to learn the extent of her crime and for what a pittance she risked all and permanently tainted the collections of individuals and prestigious libraries as well as reputable ephemera dealers who ultimately suspected and exposed her actions. Her own small back catalog of insightful biographies was devalued. With the number of counts of individual crimes committed, one would have thought she would have languished behind bars until death instead of working for a fine publishing house. It's ultimately a commentary on a shallow, selfish life of someone who was as remorseless as any skilled sociopath who methodically selects his victims to murder. However, the "how" of her actions made for a fascinating read. What hubris!

I take exception to Casey Abell's review from a few days ago. As I type this, it is the only one here that was written after Lee Israel died.I'm adding a response to these words by Mr. Abell: "The exception is the conspiracy theorizing about Dorothy's death, where Israel betrays the itch to, let's say, tart up the facts. That itch would eventually land her in forgery and federal court."Ms. Israel worked on her Dorothy Kilgallen book between 1975 and 1978 using a 40,000 - dollar advance from Delacorte Press.She began forging letters in 1991 or 1992, many years after publishing companies stopped paying her. Her eventual poverty and welfare status motivated her to cross a boundary into white-collar crime.Therefore, her criminal frame of mind in 1991 and 1992 doesn't reflect in any way the text of her Kilgallen book.Many What's My Line bloggers have said the way Ms. Kilgallen slurs her words on a few live What's My Line episodes (sprinkled throughout a period of three years) proves she never had a scoop on Lee Oswald or Jack Ruby.That makes no sense because What's My Line wasn't the forum on which Ms. Kilgallen could discuss Oswald or Ruby, and she knew it. It was a fun game show. John Charles Daly allowed very few people to make controversial comments over the years. Henry Cabot Lodge was one. He preached against communism on an episode that CBS aired live in 1956. But Ms. Kilgallen knew Mr. Daly never would allow her to say anything controversial on-camera. She intelligently relied on other circumstances for making her comments, such as her use of a typewriter and her visits to late-night TV talk shows hosted by Les Crane and David Susskind.Game show fans tend to ignore what Dorothy Kilgallen said under those non - game show circumstances. If you choose to quibble with the witness statements and facts that surround the Kilgallen - Oswald conspiracy theory, you have to address these witness statements and facts. An old game show doesn't constitute evidence of Oswald acting alone. Neither does the criminal behavior of a has-been biographer that began almost thirty years after the assassination.I'm trying to defend Dorothy Kilgallen. She has been unable to defend herself for 49 years. Judge her by what she wrote and said under circumstances that had nothing to do with comedians playing fun games.Lee Israel never put words in Ms. Kilgallen's mouth. What Ms. Israel did was to gather some witness statements and facts during the limited time she had while Delacorte Press paid her. Many years after the deadline that Delacorte gave her, the internet became commonly used by nostalgic people. Some cited those witness statements and facts while others depended totally on the fun game show and Ms. Israel's reputation, and they concluded that Oswald had acted alone. The latter group used poor logic.Some Kilgallen witnesses remain alive today. Ron Pataky is one. Mary Brannum Bringle is another. You can find them with Google. Other Kilgallen witnesses who have died left behind their statements. Marlin Swing is one. He knew Walter Cronkite personally. Cronkite said Swing was an honest personal friend, and Swing believed his friend Dorothy Kilgallen had been murdered.If you depend on the Warren Commission as a source while you also cite black-and-white game show videos and Lee Israel's behavior in the early 1990s, then you are trying to time travel. Such a thing is a fraudulent approach to the Oswald mystery.I don't support any particular theory about Lee Oswald or Jack Ruby. I believe that as long as some sane people doubt the Warren Commission conclusions -- they include the legendary White House reporter Helen Thomas -- then the Dorothy Kilgallen dimension of the mystery requires bloggers to cite serious evidence. The 1993 FBI sting on Ms. Israel tells you nothing about it, either.Fraud doesn't matter when you read -- for fun -- the entertaining letters that Lee Israel wrote while impersonating Coward and other funny people. Can You Ever Forgive Me ... presents them to you. The book is funny. Enjoy. If the fraudulent side of them makes you angry, please don't blame that on Dorothy Kilgallen.

I read Can You Ever Forgive Me?: Memoirs of a Literary Forger by Lee Israel after seeing the movie. The movie was great. The book was mediocre. Israel stated that her forged letters were her best writing. I have to agree. The copies of the letters were the best parts of her book. The movie was pretty true to the book, but was much more interesting. Can Your Ever Forgive Me? was a very short read. It might be of interest, especially if youâ€™ve seen the movie.

Loved this book. Was too short! Read it in one sitting. Wanted it to go on and on. Israel was a fascinating character whose wit, had she been an adult at the time, would have placed her at the round table at the Akgonquin Hotel with the very authors whose letters she created and forged. It is so sad that she is no longer living. She tells a great story without resorting to self-pity and justification.

Glad I bought this but it's not perfect. It organizes Venice by vaporetto stops. I'd like additional information on restaurants and shopping. Don't want to carry around two, or more, tour books. But it does what it promises- helps one with limited mobility navigate around Venice.

L. Randall Wray is a professor of Economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, USA, and Senior Scholar at the Levy Economics Institute of Bard College, New York, USA. A student of Hyman P. Minsky while at Washington University in St. Louis, Wray has focused on monetary theory and policy, macroeconomics, financial instability, and employment policy. He has published widely in journals and is the author of Why Minsky Matters (2015), Understanding Modern Money: The Key to Full Employment and Price Stability (1998) and Money and Credit in Capitalist Economies (1990). He is the editor of Credit and State Theories of Money (2004) and the co-editor of Contemporary Post Keynesian Analysis (2005), Money, Financial Instability and Stabilization Policy (2006), and Keynes for the Twenty-First Century: The Continuing Relevance of The General Theory (2008). Wray is also the author of numerous scholarly articles in edited books and academic journals. He is the co-editor of the Journal of Post Keynesian Economics. This is a good book for students and others who want to understand how money is actually created and managed in todayâ€™s world. The many elementary examples and answers to frequently asked questions lift the veil of obfuscation spread by mainstream economic and political discourse, especially concerning the roles of taxes, the Fed, and full employment. However the result is a bit repetitious, and the economic jargon, though explained, takes some getting used to. The powerful conclusion is that we have far better and more equitable ways to manage economies, such as the US economy, ways that have been blocked by ideologically generated misconceptions about money.The main message is that â€œtaxes drive moneyâ€. That is, a governmentâ€™s imposition of taxes and fees is what obliges its residents to work for the currency issued by the government to pay those taxes and fees. This spending (on goods and services produced from resident work) by the government thus comes before taxes, not after, so that the conventional story is incorrect (that a government must collect taxes before it can spend). And if a government, like the US, floats it foreign exchange rates, it always creates money â€œout of thin airâ€ by crediting certain bank reserve accounts. The actual constraints on money come from the governmentâ€™s budget and from the monetary goals, such as inflation and employment, set by the monetary authorities (the Fed and the Treasury in the US).Thus governments do not need any â€œbackingâ€ of their money supply by a commodity, such as gold or oil. However, what Wray does not emphasize is that a different kind of backing is needed instead. This is simply that a government must be effective and strong enough to (1) collect the taxes and fees it imposes and (2) to provide the kind of goods and services that its citizens expect. Governmental failure on either score may lead to widespread tax evasion or resistance, undermining the governmentâ€™s ability to manage the economy and thus the currency too. This is a big problem for some developing countries, who often peg their currency to another currency, like the US dollar, to maintain its credibility. However Wray points out that this pegging often prevents full employment policies, enabling local elites to import luxuries instead.Concerning taxes, Wray emphasizes the model of sin taxes, viewing excessive income as a â€œsinâ€ because the resulting economic inequality is so damaging to society. Strangely he does not extend this concept to large corporations, as their monopoly power is certainly a â€œsinâ€, both from the point of view of smaller businesses and from the resulting concentration of wealth and power. But his point is correct â€“ that we donâ€™t have to tax the rich to help the poor â€“ advocating taxation and regulation to â€œpredistributeâ€ wealth rather â€œredistributeâ€ it. Strangely he does not cite the most obvious form for predistribution: universal ownership, like the Alaska Permanent Fund (all residents get a share of the oil revenue). But Wrayâ€™s prescription is even better: full employment, achieved by government as the employer of last resort. Such programs have been highly effective, from the US in the 1930s to Argentina more recently. These programs not only obviate the need for most forms of â€œwelfareâ€ but provide â€œautomatic stabilizersâ€ during business cycles. Of course, strong opposition comes from businesses, who want the cheap labor that comes from a â€œreserve army of the unemployedâ€, but some are realizing that the political upheaval eventually generated by economic inequality is even more of a threat.

In my opinion it is important for people to understand how money, credit, and debt really work. Common "common sense" understanding about such things as national debt actually harm our economy. This book is not a quick read, especially if the reader takes the time to let the ideas, the facts presented seep into consciousness. However, Randall Wray is a recognized authority on the concept of modern money, and he does a good job of explaining how it works in a modern economy. It's not what people assume, and until we get this right we will continue to economically struggle as a country. Blue Pill or Red Pill ?

I came across MMT for the first time about a week ago when I saw and viewed a video by Stephanie Kelton. I thought to myself "This can't be right!" so I went off googling and read the wikipedia entry on MMT. After that, I had a bunch of questions. Searching on Amazon for MMT books I came across this one and looked at the table of contents. There is a chapter here on every question I had! I bought it and it arrived two days ago. I could not put it down, finishing it this morning. Along the way I did my own hypothesis development and testing (i.e., does the probability of a recession correlate to periods of government balanced budgets or surpluses - it does!) which quickly demonstrated to me the validity of the basic concepts. This is simply a must read book. I have no background in economics or macroeconomics, yet the book is easy to read. I finally understand how banking and the Fed work. I do wish a few of the terms were explained upon first use, but none of them are conceptually difficult and all are easily defined by googling them. Buy it or borrow it, but certainly read it before we get deep into the primary and national election season. This is what an informed voter needs to know. I'm tempted to buy 537 copies of this and send them to members of congress, the VP , and the POTUS.

This book is clear in its argument, easy to read for a non-financial person. Being way more sociological in my way of thinking I do wish it had more examples, and concrete process description, but as an introduction it works perfect.At first the argument is strange as most of think about money only as a mean of exchange. Yet, the arguments are clear and strong. It really gets you to think, and interpret the world in a new way.

This is the basic primer on Modern Monetary Theory. Clearly written in a conversational style. Has only one serious typo in the rendering of some mathematical equations. If you also have the first edition (this is the second edition, considerably revised) you will get the equations free of typos.

Excellent intro to MMT, definitely makes you think about a lot of concepts regarding governments and money that you have believed you entire life but that may well be completely incorrect. If MMT is right and if you believe that the purpose of government is to promote the health and welfare of its citizens then we are basically doing everything wrong.

This primer on how money works is a welcome tonic against what most people seem to remember from Econ 101. Wray explains how sovereign governments must spend money before collecting taxes, that fears of government investment crowding out private investment are overblown, and he revives Keynes's prescription for robust countercyclical fiscal policy. In particular, a government like the US with a sovereign currency, if it invests in productive solutions to social problems, can spend substantial fractions of GDP and support full employment at living wages without igniting a ruinous level of inflation.

Also, the word drone is commonly misused, by the media, by the President, by the CEO of 3DR, etc. You say yourself, in the book, that a drone does not have a human at the controls. That is an accurate definition. A Roomba is a good example of a drone. Interesting read though, and I applaud Eric Hall for offering his insight and experience in a concise, well written, book.

Told in first person, the author shares his experience starting a business in aerial drone photography. He discusses various make and model drones and their price points, strengths, and weaknesses. He discusses available components and their functions. He goes over cameras, and the available components relative to aerial photography. He gets into regulations and discusses where the industry is headed, and he walks the reader through methods of monetization. The Bonus section provides relevant links to get the reader started. The book is clear, concise and to the point. It is ideal for anyone with an interest in purchasing a drone with the intention to photograph with it. There aren't many books covering this emerging technology.

Thought it was a concise, well thought out, well structured book that wasn't overly simple while at the same time not overly complicated. It was easy to understand, the author does a great job of breaking down the basics, many benefits, and overall possibilities available in this day and age with drone photography.

I bought this book relatively recently and it positively exceeded my expectations. The book introduces drone photography as a new, emergent variant of photo shooting and the author's enthusiasm is absolutely catching. If you are browsing for a motivational and instructive guide to what can be achieved with quadcopters and drones, look no further.

My son loved it and this has helped him get ideas for his photoshoots.

I bought this for my 16 yr old who is interested in game art. He is excited that he has already finished the first task in the book and is thinking about what he's going to do with the next few chapters.The only problem with the book is the CD that comes with it has the old version of the student 3D program on it and we couldn't get a registration key from the website for the older version. We ended up loading the newer version free from the webite, which is great, but some of the button references are different in the new program than how they are explained in the book. He's cool with it and has figured out how to find what he needs. He says the book is very informative and has helped him to understand the 3D art a lot better and he can already see in games how some of the things are put together.This book has been a good buy for us and a good investment in keeping our son interested in learning more about game art.

It is very difficult to not score well, I ground appreciate the hard work of writers. I have not much to say with my bad English.

So far this is a very good book... except the figures inthe book are too small.Eg, "Create a polygon cube of the dimensions shown inFigure XX.XX" is given though the image is so smallthat you can't read the numbers. The sliders are helpfulfor some figures giving a hint at what the number should be.Suggestions as to fix this problem are as follows. Thisfont size problem which if it was present in the firstversion really should have been fixed in this 2nd version.1) Use a magnifying glass but it's still too small toread. You can see things like slider position and vertexposition though.2) Scan a page with 300dpi or 500dpi but the quality ofthe printed figure isn't good enough for you to read thescanned version. And it takes too long to scan at that dpi.3) Put the figure images up on a website like the author'swebsite or publisher.4) Put the figure images on the CD that accompanies thebook. There's probably plenty of room on the CD.But the pros of small figures is that you press everywidget on the user interface relating to the figure...That as compared with just entering the numbers if areadable figure.

I really rate this book, i am a professional game developer and trainer and i just think this book is amazing. It is really good quality, the explanations are clear and it covers all the necessary material as it should be.It is an excellent Maya set of tutorials and is cheap and in full color ( some of the pics are a little small, slight complaint)Only real gripe is that the title is wrong, i would have like to have seen some of the art brought into a game engine. But will give it 5 stars anyway as i like it so much

This book was required in one of my classes. I learned absolutely nothing from the book as it is incomplete and lacks an up to date methods of doing things. If you are thinking about getting this book, don't. There are so many free tutorials online that will give you any knowledge you are looking for.

I'd hoped this book would have more up-to-date photos and information on Slag animals, especially cats. There's almost no coverage of the alley cats and the smaller cats that were produced in slag. These 11" and 6" cats are commanding high prices, and are very exciting to see. I hope there'll be an updated version of this book. If you collect vases, bowls, etc., there's lots to review and learn. Very few of the other Fenton books give more than a couple of pages to the slag and marble creations, so this is worth it if you coillect it.

This is a very interesting book and I am glad to add it to my collection because I don't know too much about slag glass and now I can learn from it. This book arrived in great condition and I would buy from this seller again.

For instance, the beginning of the sentence "Most of history has referred to Galileo as Galileo..." is understandable yet flawed. An editor might have changed this to something like "Most written history has referred to Galilei as Galileo" in order to convey the author's meaning.If this was a solitary instance of mangling the English language, it could have been overlooked. I Thank all the authors for writing these Hourly History Books, they are so educational. I enjoy reading them.

Galileo Galilei: A Life From Beginning to End is now my one of my favorite Hourly History book so far. I thorougly enjoyed reading every single chapter of this book. It was all so interesting and I loved learning more about Galileo's life and accomplishments.I'm super intrigued by a lot of people who lived in the Italian Renaissance but I've always been especially interested by Galileo Galilei, his genius and the way he challenged the Church. He's one of my favorite historical figures to read about. And obviously without him and his discoveries I'm sure we wouldn't be where we are today.This quick read gives us information about things like his early life, his controversial theories, his trial and when he passed away. Like I said I loved reading every chapter so this time I couldn't say what my favorite was. I did enjoy reading about the beginning of his career a lot, though.Overall, yet another great Hourly History book that I enjoyed so much. I learned a few new things about Galileo, which is always a bonus for me with nonfiction. Definitely recommended!
