About the Author

Dan Gable has been named to several Halls of Fame including the USA Wrestling Hall of Fame, the US Olympic Hall of Fame, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, and is the namesake of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum in Waterloo, Iowa. In 2002, he was appointed to the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. He has been named the top wrestler of the 20th Century by Gannett News Services, is listed as one of the top coaches of the 20th Century by ESPN, and is named Iowa’s top sports figure in the past 100 years. In 1996, Gable was named one of the “100 Golden Olympians,” an honor bestowed to the top 100 U.S. Olympians of all time. During the 2012 Olympics, he was inducted into the FILA Hall of Fame Legends of the Sport category, becoming one of three people in the world to receive this honor. He resides in Iowa City, Iowa, with his wife Kathy.  Born and raised in Connecticut, Scott Schulte has been a fan of Dan Gable his entire life. He enjoyed success as a high school wrestler and runner and as a high school wrestling and track coach for many years. The father of two sons and two grandchildren, he is a professional writer. He lives in Milford, Connecticut.

I was fortunate to be at IOWA when he was coaching. I met him a few years ago at a speaking engagement and the intensity of this man has not diminished. The book is great for fans, coaches and athletes. How to motivate, train and prepare for competition. I wish he was still coaching at IOWA!

As a resident of Waterloo, I think of Dan Gable as an example of the first John Deere tractor. Just like it he showed the way to be a winner. His stories are full of what made him a winner and if we applied his examples we can also win in our lives. A great read for those who need to know that success comes from hard work. There is no easy road to being happy and a winner. We all lose some of the time, we just need to keep trying.

Dan Gable is a hero of mine in that he inspired me to work hard and smart to be the best in whatever moves you. It motivates me as a teenager and even now in my work life as an adult. Great stories and nice insights, not a whole lot of in depth things on Gable in a book form so glad to see this. My oldest boy really likes it too

I read most of this book after doing my morning workouts and it made me want to go back and do another round. Dan Gable's achievements is nothing less than legendary in the sport of wrestling. I even knew about him back when I first started wrestling and now that I read this book I got to learn more of what made Dan the man in Wrestling

I really enjoyed the book and my only complaint is that it wasn't longer. It was great to read the stories about Dan Gable's life and the wrestlers who have had an impact on him and his career.

I bought this book for my nephew who was struggling with his identity in Christ. This book was an inspiration to him and has causedhim to find a peace he did not previously had. He "gave up his anger". I contribute it to the testimony of Mr. Michaels. Excellent!

Wonderful book, very good supplements to all the Dan Gable stories in his legend. In this book, much to my surprise, Gable's wisdom extends far beyond the sport of wrestling. A very good reading.

This is the Chinese New Year book to read to a child's preschool class. I wanted to read one for a "family share day" and basically bought all of them from Amazon looking for an appropriate one. I thought it was going to be Bringing in the New Year by Grace Lin, but that book was totally not well suited (it just kept repeating "where is the new year? is it here yet?" and the like, which isn't particularly insightful, and focused a bit too much on money). This book is the perfect representation of Chinese New Year traditions, without too much a focus on money and spirits and luck. It also has enough text to read aloud, but not too much.

It's ok book in terms of story. I bought the Kindle version, and it isn't the best I've seen, a bit difficult to read...small font. When you press on it, you can increase the font, but it doesn't work very well. For the price, it's not worth it.

My kids love this book. I brought it to their classroom, read to them, they all like it. Great for Chinese New Year presentation.

The text was done very well to help the reader get a real sense of what Chinese New Year is all about. The cartoon illustrations are nice as well.

Kids loved it.

A great book for 4-6 ro 7 year old children to explore the colors and sounds of Chinese New Year. Very educational.

My grandson enjoyed this.

My 3nd great grandfather died from over-exertion while logging in Wisconsin in the 1840’s. These photos bring that era to life. Complaints in other reviews that it’s mostly pictures don’t make sense as the book title begins with “Images of America”

I have many books, tapes, computer programs and charts to help me learn Japanese. Nothing has been as fun and useful as this CD. Great concept, great execution.

`Earworms Rapid Japanese' is a new way of learning a language based on linking words and phrases to music. The album has a variety of tracks that take you through various situations and gives you the words you may need. These words are almost sung along with catchy tunes in the background, I say almost as they are spoken but in time with the music to assist your memory. On this disc a man speaks the English and a native Japanese lady speaks the Japanese. Both speak very clearly and are in no way cheesy or patronising. What is also good is that at times the man may ask questions to clarify a point or pronunciation and they lady will respond. The topics covered in Volume 1 (meant to cover brief visits, whereas Volume 2 covers more in-depth knowledge) are `I would like...', `To Order', Have You Got...?', To The Airport', Numbers, days and time', `Is There?', `Directions', `Where, how many and what time?', `Problems' and `Do You Understand English?'. Basically what you'd need on your first holiday to Japan. The music is OK to listen to and not excessively cheesy or boring. It gets a bit repetitive at times, but this is kind of the point as it's meant to be almost like a jingle that hooks the phrases in your brain. There are various music styles with folky guitar, Celtic styles, drum (almost dance) style and more. There is also a complimentary website that adds ideas to help with learning and retention. There is information in the booklet on how the idea of earworms works, as well as the phrases used so you can read along if you wish. I found this system of language learning easy to use and I retained a great deal of the words used. You do need to repeat the listening, but with the music this isn't too arduous and you can easily have this on in the background and still pick bits up. Coupled with a good phrasebook this should stand you in good stead for any visits to Japan you may have planned. This is the only product that I have used that will have you ordering food and getting directions in Japanese in under a week. The insistent repetition method really works. I found myself spontaneously remembering phrases that I had tried to learn in the past. Earworms is is bar none the best option for the unserious student of Japanese, and should be considered by anyone who is trying to learn this language.

The phrases taught here seem like they would be great if you are planning at trip to Japan. However, I was so distracted by the weird background music and crazy echo interludes "sumimasen-sumimasen-sumimasen-sumimasen!" that I didn't retain much. Also, the words aren't really set to the jazzy music so much as spoken over it. It's definitely not something I would listen to for fun.

I was so excited for this series, because the Earworms website promises, "brain optimized, accelerated learning." I was really hoping for something revolutionary, like the Head First series of books. But, unfortunately, this is just a very mediocre introduction to Japanese. I was so disappointed.I bought the Rapanese cassette tapes over ten years ago, and they were goofy, but they taught me a little Japanese. I bought this CD excited to see what leaps Japanese instruction had made in the last decade. Sadly, that dated, wacky audio cassette was much more advanced than this CD.The 'music' is super cheap stock music, or elevator music. The voice actors talk in a little bit of sing-songy voices, but definitely not on beat with the music (the music was mixed in afterwards). You'll probably pick up more Japanese by reading the Wikipedia article on Learning Japanese, than you'll get by listening to this CD.The voice actors are by far the best part of this. With every other part of this, you'll wish you bought some other method of learning Japanese.Pros:+I liked both of the voice actors on this CD. The male actor has a nice British accent, and the female actor has a nice Japanese accent.Cons:-If you're looking for something that's revolutionary in any way, you'll be super disappointed-Super annoying music-Super annoying sound effects-Really bad sound mixing. The background music is too loud-The dialog is a rehash of every other beginning Japanese course ever written

This book is certainly worth reading through if you have any interest in politics or history. Machiavelli was very thorough in his writing, for he would teach a lesson and then use examples from history to prove that his lesson was correct while also going further to state that nothing is ever guaranteed, but his teachings would certainly increase the odds should you follow them closely. My only real complaint was that the translation was a little off in terms of being done correctly in a few places; however, I only noticed this once or twice in the book with it occurring a little more often in the letter and essay at the end. Overall, highly recommended.

This edition of "The Prince" is well written and VERY informative. The illustrations are beautiful. I won't give a review on what the book is about since it is a classic. No doubt most men in the political arena have read this and used it's knowledge to manipulate their way into power and to stay there. Especially during the industrial revolution.It's a good read for anyone. In general it will help you understand why politics are important and why politicians don't always fulfill their promises. It covers how to govern your land or foreign lands which have been invaded. Rise to power and methods to stay in power.This book is a hardcover edition and its beautifully bound material feels great. I guess the only downside is that it's purple. Which you know, I think it's fine but given the fact that the the title is "The Prince" some idiot might think it's about the artist/singer "Prince" who is usually associated with the color purple. Maybe it's just me being paranoid.In conclusion here, I think this book should be required reading for High School students, that's how important I think this is.

Machiavelli's "The Prince" is one of the most famous books concerning politics and power of all time. This book is written as a "How To" guide for manipulative rulers and politicians. This said, you do not have to be a manipulative or conniving person to draw value from its teachings. While I read portions of this book in college more than 25 years ago, I purchased it so that I would better understand politics in Corporate America. These teachings help you to understand power dynamics between individuals, groups, and large organizations all the way up to countries and alliances. Whether large or small, the basic principles of power are the same.You could find a used paperback copy of this book for a couple of dollars. For slightly more than a mere $16 bucks, this vendor provides you with a beautifully crafted hard cover edition bound in a royal purple satin cloth. Painted illustrations throughout the entire edition combined with introductions and analysis ensures that this book's presentation matches Machiavelli's timeless masterpiece. Nobody would be surprised if I told them that I paid $75 or more. I am pleased and proud of this recent purchase. Spend a few dollars more and you will treasure this book for a lifetime.P.S. The book comes with a lovely matching purple "ribbon" bookmark built into the binding.

The Prince is, of course the foundation stone for all modern political writings on the art and science of governing. If it were not a brilliant analysis of how an autocrat should govern it would not have lasted 400+ years. My wife wanted to reread pit, so this specific edition was bought for her. I can't, therefore, comment on the quality of this translation.The book is more descriptive than prescriptive in that it tells what the successful ruler does.

This is an excellent presentation of a classic work.This version contains a solid preface, followed by the Marriott translation of the work itself and then a couple of essay appendices to provide further reflections and context. I have not read any of the other translations, but was pleased to find that even though this one was from over a century ago, it still reads quite well.However, aside form the content itself being sound, what really struck me about this book was the presentation.The hardcover binding is in a royal purple fabric with a sheen that gives the appearance of silk. This is pressed with textured lettering and silver detailing. The artwork consists largely of beautiful photos of relevant artworks which are scattered very liberally amongst the core content of the book. The pages are solid with every single one containing some colour, even if it is just for a fine border or faux watermark detailing. The typeset also appears to be Garamond which makes for clean presentation and easy reading.As superficial as all of this is, it seems the people that pulled this book together wanted the presentation to frame the content well - and have succeeded.

I just received this book. I started reading it, and I do not it to put down. It is a known and an influential book, and I already see why. The print is clear and the picture is as shown. The font is very friendly to read. The size of the book is a bit smaller than the 9.7 iPad Pro. As seen in picture attached, it is a thin book that fits in the iPad case. I look forward reading Machiavelli’s insights!

The short book is a good choice to read in regards to learning how to manage large groups of people. It even can be applied to modern times in some fashion. The problem with this book is that some of the concepts seem to have not been fleshed out fully because of the inherent assumption of the knowledge at the time.In modern times, this is critical in understanding the full meaning of the text and this translation could have done a better job at explaining more of the subtext.
