This book is a lot of fun. The illustrations are great and the story is engaging. It's a great historical narrative to which a girl growing up can relate. My three-year-old loves it!

This was an enjoyable read, filled with an empathetic, feisty character, and little-known information. A great gift book for a young girl or boy interested in auto racing.

Great book for little girls who want to do "Traditionally" boy things. My MIL is related to Ms. Smith, so that was a bonus too!

Rosenstock is a "go-to" author for biographical stories about inspiring people. Be sure to read the intro (just before the first page of text) where Rosenstock defines "legacy" and includes a quote from Louise Smith about giving racing her all despite setbacks. Reading the intro and the quote (even projecting the quote) would make for a strong intro to one of the main ideas in this text. In addition, the author's note at the back of the book about Louise Smith could make for additional conversation--ask students to read with a partner or independently (4th grade and up) and discuss and write in response. There's also an author's note "thanks to" about her research which included numerous interviews. This note can launch research writing--which includes not just reading texts, but also interviewing experts and so forth. Rosenstock's book is "based on" her understanding of primary sources. Students could write historical stories "based on" their interpretation of primary sources.Lots of potential with this one. Rosenstock has written several other biographical stories "based on" her interpretation of primary sources. Her work is worthy of an author study. This book would pair well with others about strong women like Who Says Women Can't Be Doctors?: The Story of Elizabeth Blackwell by Tanya Lee Stone.

Louise longingly looked over the fence watching the boys play baseball. Way back when girls simply were not allowed to do all the things that boys did, but she didn't really care what anyone said. As a matter of fact, "Most of the time, she did exactly as she pleased." When she was seven she found herself behind the wheel of her father's car. Her eyes were bright and she was grinning from ear to ear as she took off down the road "and left those boys in the dust!" Vrooom! Vrooom! Louise was just Louise and when she smashed into the chicken coop sending hens flying, she still continued to laugh and smile. One of the boys scratched his head wondering about her.When Louise grew up she did many of the same things that other girls did, but never seemed satisfied. She tried her hand at many jobs from working as a nurse to being a beautician, but fast cars continued to be a draw. In the dark of night the only things that lit up the sky were a waning moon, the headlights of her black sedan, and her smile as she raced through the night. One day a man named "Big Bill" came to town. Young boys clustered around him as he showed them a poster of a racing car, but he wasn't looking for boys or men, he was looking for someone very different . . . he was "looking for a girl who could drive in a race as a gimmick, a joke." Louise was definitely up to the job, but no one reckoned that she would become so serious about racing. Racing cars was a tough, competitive sport, but would she be able to be good enough to race against seasoned veterans?This is an amazing story about Louise Smith, a "fearless" race car driver. I enjoyed reading about Louise because she was a spirited woman who didn't ever back away from her dream of becoming a racecar driver despite the prejudice of the 1940s and 1950s. I've read about Daytona history in books for this age group, but none featured Louise. The Daytona she raced in was appropriately depicted as having been held on the beach. The stunning artwork by Scott Dawson meshed perfectly with the tale and had a nice vintage aura about it. Louise's indomitable spirit and personality ooze from these pages, pages that both boys and girls will pore over. This book, a first picture book attempt by both the author and illustrator, is definitely worth adding to one's collection. In the back of the book is a small cameo picture of Louise and a brief, but more detailed look at Louise's racing career.

This is a book of information that will guide fairness to myself and the person/dealership. Fairness is a good thing for everyone. I took personal notes about what I wanted and what I did not want. Upon completion of the book, I knew what I needed to do and to buy with everyone's interest in mind. I will no longer purchase/lease a car and find a need to go back to the seller and say, "It was my understanding that..........." and then hear, "No, the agreement reads that ..........". Love the book!!! It is an easy read and very easy to understand.....that's a good thing too.

We are a family of used cars, can't afford new ones ! I found Bob's book had an enormous amount of useful advice in finding a goodused car at the right price.

My thirteen-year-old daughter was having some bad attitude problems. She was very ungrateful, and most the things that came out of her mouth were angry. So when I finally had enough I decided to come up with a different kind of punishment. I would teach her different habits and force her if needed to remember all the reason she has to be grateful. When I came across this book I was thrilled. A Christian book on her level with inspiring stories. It was exactly what I needed. She read some of these stories alone, but every night we read a few together. Most of the stories are very short, I think some of the longest were about 7 pages, but usually they were two or three. We laughed, we cried, we bonded, we learned lots of things and saw things for many different points of view. Very great uplifting book about how God can turn anything around. And how you can always turn to him no matter how dark things look. I recommend this book to everyone!!!!

If you are a guy that was in a marriage where you were emotionally and/or verbally abused by your wife, do not buy this book! It felt toxic to me. I was looking for something that promoted healing, forgiveness, and not placing blame on one person or the other but this book does not do that. Ninety percent of the stories are written from the wives perspective (granted they may have been married to Gaston from Beauty and the Beast) but most left me feeling worse for the wear. Even some of the stories from the husbands perspective had a strong tinge of "but it was my fault- I was a jerk." In our current social framework this book fits right in to the narrative that "men are the problem." If are a great guy and was married to Cruella de Vil, this is not the book to help you heal.

If you are down, or have health issues, family problems, or any other situation of that nature, this book will lift and inspire you. While it won't eradicate all troubles, it demonstrates how individuals through prayer and divine intervention saw the light and had a profound effect in their lives.While some of the "Chicken Soup" books I didn't care for; this one is exceptional. It is a must read for a dose of good old fashioned faith!.

I found this book to be very comforting as I went through my grief of losing my husband unexpectedly . Reading the stories of other people who have lost loved ones and have found a new life and hope encouraged me that my life would go on and that I could obtain happiness in spite of my grief.

The order was fine. The book was in excellent condition. But it is a terrible book. The stories are superficial and shallow. The problems were so incredibly trivial and full of self pity i could hardly stand it. For example, “I broke my leg and it ruined my vacation”. I was hoping for something with more substance.

Gave it as a gift to a dear friend who loss a loved one. She loved the book and read it every night was great to give to her when she was going through a loss of a loved one and for anyone who loves reading about messages from heaven anytime!

Another great Chicken Soup book. I saw a lot of Zen thinking in this book. It showed me, once again, that acceptance of a situation, concentration on the present moment, and enjoyment of the good, positive aspects of all circumstances helps us to rise above difficulties. Some of the authors have illnesses or disabilities which would depress many people. Would you see the positive side of Alzheimer's Disease? Could you still be happy if you had macular degeneration and were slowly going blind? Could you have Asperger Syndrome and still want to travel the world knowing that you were directionally-challenged? I don't think I've ever made it through a Chicken Soup book without crying. And this book was no exception. It was so moving. I am a person who tries to look for the silver lining, but I often fall short, and this book has helped me to look for the beauty in all circumstances.

I always say that you can't go wrong with Chicken Soup. I don't think I will ever give one of these books less than four stars. This is another one that is so filled with wisdom and inspiration that I was looking forward each day to reading more stories. Many people had to climb the ladder of success in order to achieve happiness. They had to get more education and training. Others had to downsize. They already had degrees and high-powered careers, but they weren't happy. Sometimes that six-letter word, stress, was slowly killing them. One became a full-time stay-at-home mom and found that PB and jelly with her kids beat luncheons with executives. One went from management to administrative work as an executive secretary and was so much happier. Many people came to realize that managing with less money wasn't a hardship if they had less stress and more peace in their lives.Others had handicaps or illnesses that they needed to accept. One blind woman made such a beautiful life for herself that a cure for her blindness wasn't the end-all and be-all of her existence anymore. As usual, I was truly moved and astounded by so many of these stories. Others were pleasant stories, but they didn't have the power to really move me to a great degree. This is a matter of personal taste I'm sure. But I had to take a star off because of the stories that didn't have the punch that I've learned to expect--the stories that move me to tears or really amaze me with their wisdom and beauty.It's a wonderful book for the bedside--sure to relax you and give you hope. By the way, I know that some people can be turned off by stories about people who leave perfectly good jobs to find a more peaceful existence. People can't always leave their jobs, but I seem to remember that there were some good ideas here for making the most of leisure time or achieving some balance in life. One story is even about the joy of having a box of chocolates all to yourself--loved that one!

Nice book in great condition, arrived very quickly but in essence, it's just another nice cookbook that puts some slightly out of date theories about metabolic syndromes to work in mostly interesting recipes. Not particularly 'Hawaiian" though, but after all the years of cultural fiddling that poor island group probably hasn't settled on just what "Hawaiian" means ay more. It's all too common in our mostly post-colonial world so what can you do?

I do like a lot of the recipes. .Makes it to where you eat healthier, to turn back a lot of different health issues. Like weight gain, high blood pressure, etc..

Good recipes but some of the ingredients are not available where I live.

I like the recipes. I received it in decent condition.

The 6th edition has better structure in quant and substantial improvements in Verbal. See my comparison vs. 5th edition below.If you are just starting out with GMAT prep - get this bundle; it's a good deal for the Manhattan GMAT Guides (separately they cost close to $150). These books don't emphasize tricks or easy ways to 700+ score, instead they methodically cover areas tested, and should be pretty much all you will need (besides the Official Guides - see below for links). If this is above your budget or you are in a rush, then would recommend you pick the best of the pack:- The GMAT Roadmap Great collection of wisdom (see my review of this book)- Number Properties Guide (condensed overview of Arithmetic and strategies for saving time/solving questions more effectively)- Word Propblems Guide (includes some of the hardest topics - probability, combinations, and statistics)- Sentence Correction (the best book out there on SC)- Critical Reasoning (only second to PowerScore CR but by a slim margin)- Reading Comprehension - a significantly revised book (there are no other dedicated RC books on market really)Between these 5 books you should have 80-90% of the GMAT covered and the rest could be picked up from the remaining books and practice with the Official Guides. You can throw in a Kaplan Premier as well - a good intro to GMAT book with 6 free GMAT Tets. It is a good starter book to get your feet wet, but definitely not a must.To make the most use out of the MGMAT guides, you will need the Official Guide 20015 and also OG Verbal 2nd and OG Quant 2nd editions are recommended. The guides refer to these 3 books for additional practice questions. If you own previous versions of the Official Guide books, you can use those too with a translation table available from MGMAT's website.*** Each book comes with access to 6 online gmat tests and additional question banks. Don't spend money on these as they are pricey ($40 for 6 tests on the MGMAT website).Also, if you are new to the GMAT, download 2 official practice tests from GMAC and take one of them before you start prepping to get your level - very helpful to track your progress along the way but don't waste these tests - they use real retired gmat questions and though it is possible to recycle them (there are close to 900 questions in the banks), would recommend you use something less valuable for your practice such as MGMAT tests included with these books).One more thing, don't rush into questions and tests - you will only hurt your self confidence, instead methodically cover each math and verbal topic and only after you are done with each of the sections move on to take the tests (take math only after you are done with math and verbal only after done with verbal). Final word of advice - the main mistake (esp in verbal) is not following strategies. Whichever books or strategies you use (they are all pretty similar between MGMAT, PowerScore, and Kaplan) - follow them EXACTLY. These people are getting big bucks to develop methods to improve score and maximize performance - don't try to be smarter and change things around. Unless you are scoring 750+, I would follow each step of the strategy to the "T". If the book says to read the CR question twice, then that's what you do even though it may seem that it is faster to read it once - trust me, there is a reason why you read it twice. If you want to get 700+ and not worry about the GMAT, stick to the strategies and keep creativity low.~~~ Comparison of the 5th edition vs 6th edition. ~~~I have gone through all of the books and here is how it looks:Overall, all books have undergone some degree of updating; not just slapping a new cover as some providers do, so you will be better of buying the 6th if you are deciding. If you own the 5th edition already, I would recommend getting only the IR and RC books, however as they have undergone the most transformation. The rest is organized better (more logical); it will help those who are short on time; the pages now also have more graphs, charts, and cheat sheets at the end (a number of books added this feature including Geometry and CR).IR - substantial changes and improvements - the book needed them, and is now split by question type and organized a lot betterQuant - mostly minor updates (less than 10% new content)RC - Major updateSC - Restructure with the main difference is that the idiom section is cut down and rewrite of most chapters (more than 20% of content updated)CR - Improvements in text-heavy areas that put people to sleep before. Cheat sheets added after each chapter. I do like pre-thinking, however, in CR, so I still feel that CR book can be improved.Hopefully this will get you started. I bought these books to prepare for the GMAT - I haven't taken a standardized test in years! My first practice test put me at a 650 so I know I had work to do. I poured over these books and studied four hours a night after work and every weekend for two months. The combination of these books, the GMAT Original Guide Bundle (buy those for practice problems), and hours of studying produced a 760 GMAT score!!! Highly recommend for time-saving tricks, comprehensive review materials and common-sense explanations.

Same set as from the Manhattan website but much better price. Very effective tool for studying for the GMAT. I did not purchase any other GMAT studying tools besides this set and the Official Guide set and they were sufficient for a 750+ score.

Great set of guides. I hate standardized tests but I decided to give self studying a try. My first practice test before I started studying I got a 490. I went through all of these books and the OG guide in 3-4 months. After that I was scoring around 580s on practice tests. I took my official test in October 2015 and got a 640. Buy these along with a solid study plan and it can be a great alternative to hiring an expensive tutor.

I have been stressing about getting ready for the GMAT but these books have really helped me chill out. They go through and tell you what to expect, how to prepare, and where to focus most of your time. Each separate book explains its topic really well. It also comes with practice tests and online resources. I really like that aspect of it because a majority of the material is from the high school level and it's a great refresher. If you are worried about spending the money just think: You have to pay $250 to take the test, so why would you go cheap on your study supplies?
