I have a lot of drum books and find most tedious and boring. This book is awkward in that it seems written by someone who didn't play rock drums who is trying to teach someone rock drums in the early 70s as if rock drumming just started. The bass drum parts are unnecessarily busy right from the beginning. A much better modern day drum book somewhat similar to this style is Dawn Richardsons Building Blocks of Rock. If you are a self learning, her much is much bettter written and much more logical.
Mel bays drummers cookbook is a must for expanding your abilities to have solid time and feel, also the 8-16 bar variations of a rhythm are a great deal of fun,
Great instructional drum book!. Also great when I apply various systems and patterns to each exercise.
