This first book by Diana Lloyd is a promise to great and entertaining readings to come.I do adored Elsinore, she is so smart and clever even if each attempt to follow her thoughts ends up in total mess, but she tries and perseveres.I did not know what to think of Quin, from the beginning I understood he had suffered a lot but still I strained to forgive him for his harsh treatment of his new wife, she did nothing to deserve such a treatment. There were so many miscommunications and misunderstandings, he was angry and tried to hurt her when he discovered she played with him about her name. But he was also the first to not know hers and after he believes he can blame her for her little trick while she tried to right it. Just he never listens to her, only thinking the worst at first, never able to accept it is her innocence that speaks to him, even if the wrong way.He is so quick to jump to conclusion, blinded by his late wife betrayal, he is unable to see Elsinore for who she is really, a young woman who wants to find her place in society and in his life.He tells it is to protect her but he does only hurt her by rejecting her and always doubting her.He was lucky Elsinore was the kind of character to never give up, she is the one hero in this tale, she decided she will make this marriage work and win her husband love, when he belittles her like most of the men of these times did.It was in a rather unorthodox way, just wait to see which guid books she decided to use, but she stayed true to herself, while he is the one to not trust her and keeping secrets at the same time.I was angry that she has every time to prove she meant no harm while he keeps her in the dark when she should be aware of the danger lurking around them.A 4.5 stars rate for this witty tale.

This is a fast-paced adventure, full of suspense as well as laugh-out-loud moments. Once I started reading, I had to continue, reading on several different devices just so I could find out what mischief Lady Elsinore would blunder into next. For a little while I wondered if the heroine's strong willed, ill-advised choices would get a bit over the top, but fortunately she grew up and learned to think beyond her own desires. Great reading!

A Regency romp that will make you smile at every cleverly written word. DIana Lloyd’s HOW TO TRAIN YOUR BARON is filled with sparkling dialogue and two main characters who never give the reader a chance to catch a breath. In this first book of the series, Ms. Lloyd brings her wonderful characters to life with a unique style and voice. A well-paced, intriguing plot moves the story forward smoothly. Not just a simple romance, there is often humor in the twists and turns, secret pasts, lies and jealousy, and discovery of true love . That’s a lot to put in one book, but Ms. Lloyd does it brilliantly. I look forward to reading Book 2.Oh, by the way, to learn how to train your own baron, you’ll have to read Book 1.

The personalty of tge heroine was annoying- she was headstrong and her actions rash. The hero was too plastic, he lacked interesting facets of personalty. The bottom line, reading to the end was a chore.

What a fun read from a fellow Michigander. This was not what I had expected from a Regency romance, much more fun and interesting. I am looking forward to her next book with eagerness.

Good book our heroine is youngest of six and is very impulsive which seems to land herself always in a wee bit of scandal. Upon trying to find lord Byron she gets in a bit of a wee possible scandal and finds herself wedded to a scotsman. Lord Graham is trying to find who is tormenting him and killed his son and upon being a gentleman and helping a lady in distress they find themselves in a scandalous position .I enjoyed the book i recommand

The beginning of the book was good. I thought that I would be reading something with a comedic bent. Instead, we are tortured with a heroine who is too silly, immature, and headstrong to be believable. The "tortured hero" wasn't the greatest but compared to her.... This brainless twit does anything (and I do mean ANYTHING) that she is told not to do just to show that she is 'independent' and can think for herself. Cute? Funny? No, just plain irritating. I forced myself to push to the end hoping things would get better. Sorry, but they didn't. I don't recommend this book unless you like a heroine who has the maturity of a wayward six year old.Sexual situations may offend some readers.

An absolutely stupid, reckless and thoughtless heroine. I was so irritated with her character that I could not continue after the 1st few chapters when she just kept being more and more thoughtless and selfish. I cannot like a heroine who, by her very deliberate actions hurts, inconveniences or embarrass others.Desiring adventure and “her way”, when her older sisters are married off & she considers them boring in there complacent, married life. Elsinore decide she wants adventure. When her recklessness gets her into a compromising position, though quite innocently, the poor man Quin, is honourable and offers for her.Thereafter Elsinore just gets worst. Determining after reading a book on training canines, that she wants to assert her "dominance" over her intended and that she will be no docile wife, she deliberately puts him into awkward situations. I gave up midway thru chapter 6 being too irritated with the heroine to continue. Not my kind of book or character.
