I am very impressed by this book! What is so different about Paul's books is how natural and comfortable the guys are, they almost seem to have forgotten about the camera, and the way he photographs them in such interesting locations, and the mix of black and white and color is very effective. I would also venture to say that it reminds me of some magazines that came out decades earlier, called "Old Reliable" in that the guys have five o clock shadows, and are very manly, and extremely macho and tough looking. I moved from DC to NYC 5 years ago, and seem to have misplaced my OR magazines, so Paul's work came at just the right time. Don't get me wrong, Paul's work is entirely original. One more thing, if one is looking at a book of male nudes, it's really a turn off if the guys have body language indicating that they are embarrassed or nervous. Paul's guys are having a blast, and we the viewer are having as much fun as them!!! I have now collected most of them, and look forward to seeing what direction Paul goes in next! Grab this one fast, I have a feeling this book will be OOP very soon!!
What could I possibly say about this book that hasn't been said already ? Yes, it's filled with stunning photographs of gorgeous men, naked men. Freeman has a knack for finding gorgeous men who look like everyday men and with every new book he manages to unearth new faces (and bodies) that never disappoint and give the book a fresh look. But that's not all. Paul Freeman is, and has always been at least for me, a true wonder. His books, one after the other (and I own 10 of them), are living proof that the male nude can also be an art form. Moreover, and more importantly, Paul Freeman gives the male nude a sense of dignity and beauty, something lacking in today's culture. Gay mainstream culture is all about chiseled groomed physiques, models of unattainable perfection. And the straight mainstream culture considers the nude male body a hostile visual aggression, the dangling penis an offense. That's why, in my opinion at least, Paul Freeman's work is so important and unique. The male genitals are there staring at your face in all their natural beauty, without asking for permission. Now and then I catch myself thinking how a book like Larrikin Yakka could exist. But it does and the world is a better place because of that.
Freeman is doing amazing work in male photography and Larrikin Yakka is fine addition to his already impressive collection. His technical aptitude is vibrantly on display here, and all his models are stunning, but he brings so much more to the viewers' experience than technique and good looks. I love how he uses light and shadow in various ways to evoke different moods. And the world that Freeman captures is as important to the stories he tells as the men themselves. You can almost smell and feel and hear the natural world his subjects inhabit, and their sense of ease and comfort in that world is palpable. For me, it is this aspect of Freeman's artistry that sets him apart from other photographers who are doing great work in a studio (more studied) context. His men are desirable AND accessible at the same time; this is awfully easy to say but very difficult for a photographer to achieve, and Freeman does it brilliantly.
After collecting all of Mr Freemans photo books I find he only gets better. The models he photographed look completely relaxed this (to me) indicates they trust Mr Freeman and he treats them honestly with respect. Again we are treated to models without any embellishments showing the true beauty of the models.One thing I never see commented on is Mr Freeman is at least as handsome as his models.I look forward to what he does in the future.Thank You Mr Freeman
Paul's books are a treat! I might sound repetitive, but showcasing these handsome men au naturel out in nature enhances how attractive they are. It's a relaxed and intimate series of sexy photos. I'm sure you'll start over right after you get to the end.
This is one of the most beautiful books exploring the beauty of the nude male form. The models are natural, beautiful, and present an air or ruggedness not found in most similar books. Paul Freeman is by far the most talented of all photographers who examine the art of the nude male. I've collected all 13 of his books and I can't recommend this book more!
A stunning sequel to Larrikin - with macho alpha dudes "doing what they know best", to quote an ancient airlines ad jingle. The book begins coyily with partial deshabilles, like a prelude for bigger things to come. And come they did: a full frontal by a relaxed, "been here before" macho! The volume continues with full frontal cornucopia, culminating on p 165. But ther is a discreet charm of understated undercurrent: the naked dudes are being crowded into what appears to be a movable showe van. The rest is silence. Will their bathing be fun? Or will result in Larrikin 3: swimming and showering at Curawoong Creek?;.
Once again Paul shows us why he is the best in his craft. The book has plenty of exquisite and well conceived piece of art. The lighting, the feeling that transpired in the images is just amazing. Another great collection of excellent images. The models are stunning. Congratulations!
